New details have emerged in the death of a Woodward baby whose mother was arrested, accused of refusing to get him medical attention. The teenager who babysat the child described that traumatic day. Mykinzie Shaw had babysat for the family from the time she was 13. She said she always felt uncomfortable watching the sick boy alone because he was on oxygen. But the kids had health issues. The 14-month-old boy was born prematurely and was later diagnosed with a cough, allergic rhinitis and possibly COVID-19. Shaw said she thought the family was taking care of the medical needs.”Well, she didn’t really talk to me about like anything about his health issues,” she said. But the day came when Mykinzie was watching them. And the little boy stopped breathing. “I picked him up and that’s when I noticed he wasn’t breathing and he was cold,” she said. “I was shaking. I fell to the ground.”In a panic, she called the mom and boyfriend. “She didn’t tell me to call 911, didn’t tell me to do anything. She just told me that if he was dead that she was going to kill me and beat my butt,” she said. The mother was later arrested, accused of failing to give her infant the medical attention he desperately needed. Court documents show she admitted to lying about follow-up doctor appointments because she didn’t like hospitals. “I was glad that they got her but it just seemed more real that he was gone,” she said.She said she’s traumatized.”Very hard because I have four or five nephews and I don’t really seem interested in being around them ” because they remind her of the deceased child, she said.
